Dear CtL friends,
It’s hard to believe, but it’s almost October! As we head into the Fall season, I’m writing with an update on worship amidst the constantly evolving Covid-19 situation.
Now with the cooler weather (thankfully!), we’re able to have worship outside in the garden following physical distancing and all the recommended safety practices. This service will be our 9:00 am “Conversation and Communion” service. The current in-person worship service in the sanctuary will now be held at 10:30, and will include some additional components to safely incorporate music back into our in-person worship with prerecorded music on video. This service will be enhanced, but won’t be like the pre-Covid 19 services, for example we won’t have communal responses and singing and, of course, we’ll have the safety protocols that everyone is asked to follow.
Above all, no one should feel obligated to attend just because we’re expanding the services. If you are wondering at all if you should make an exception to your normal practice of avoiding indoor gatherings, you can feel comfortable staying at home and enjoying the wonderful on-line service.
These new worship experiences will start Sunday, Sept. 27.
Council continues to actively monitor the unfolding situation, especially as schools and universities go into session. We will re-evaluate our plans in October based on the latest information at that time. This has been an extremely challenging 6 months for all of us, as we mourn the loss of being together in-person and doing many of the things we enjoying doing, and especially the loss of loved ones. But there have been many silver linings that I know we’ve all experienced and been delighted by, and I’m deeply grateful for God’s faithfulness.
The generosity and service of our CtL family continues to over flow. In the month of August, the Social Ministry and Outreach Committee:
- provided 315 bottles of water and snacks for Grace Church
- collected and delivered 75 God’s Work Our Hands filled grocery totes to the Foothills Food Bank
- secured a donation of 150 face masks and 100 bottles of hand sanitizer for the Foothills Food Bank.
Church members have been selflessly serving the community: at the Salvation Army doing Feed the Need food packing and distribution; sewing faces masks for NELM; packing and delivering food with Grace Church’s Food Angels program; and packing boxes of PPE with Phoenix Toolbank/United Way. What a blessing it is to be a blessing! CtL members give in so many ways, and I’d like to especially highlight Janet Thornhill’s and Tom Kallio’s efforts during this time.
Please reach out to me anytime via phone or email. And I hope to see you for the upcoming First Friday zoom gathering on October 2. It’s a fun time of laughter, catching up and fellowship!
Your sister in Christ,
President, Church Council
